Hi,

Wifey and I ... (Sandra and Andy) been looking up for quite a few years in amazement and recently decided to go further and find out what we were actually looking at!

Eventually bought a cheap starter scope and using our rear garden to make our first tentative steps, looking skyward. Hungry for more info and assistance in this fairly new and fascinating hobby.

Therefore ... here is a newbie alert! ... expect the ridiculous and inane ...

Will be trawling the threads first of course

Cheers

Andy

Hi Sandra and Andy, a warm welcome to EMS.

You are in the right place for info and help, any questions you have just ask away and someone will be along to help you out.

I don't know if you have it, but Stellarium is a great free bit of software to find your way round the sky.

Many thanks for the Welcome guy's.

Yep we have Stellarium - the usual maps and we have a Skywatcher f5 750 so getting a good look see at Jupiter and Venus with rough aligned  north on the mount either side of Gemini. Becoming patient with the weather well trying.

We are getting to know more of the constellations, etc but not observed any DSO's yet due to vis and time etc.

Been lurking through here a bit but rest assured we  will deffo find some ridiculous stuff to ask you friendly bunch soon hoping to get out tonight  if it stays good ...

Intending going out for a reccie on darker spaces to observe locally but if I find any might ask opinions on here for those local to me .... will report back on here somewhere

Many thanks once again, and looking forward to getting to know you all

Welcome both, to the hobby that fascinates and frustrates in equal measure, whilst simultaneously draining your bank account (allegedly).

Thanks again and also to Baz for the heads up on some local dark skies.

Been whipping the big gun out to catch the moon, Jupiter and not forgetting Venus dodging the clouds and stuff - moon was great last night too.
