I have a 3 inch dia x 2 1/2 inches long steel counterweight.

I need to get its length reduced by about an inch by turning off 1/2 from each end.   No accuracy required.

Does anyone know of a small engineering workshop near to

Ashby de la Zouch/ Coallville / Swadlincote / Burton, who might undertake to do this for me?

Can't help you regarding a local machine shop, but if you have a rummage on Astroboot, they have various different size weights going cheap. I just bought 3 small ones with a 10.5mm hole for about £8.00. Could even be cheaper than getting someone to machine yours.

Or failing that you could post it down to me and I will do it for you.  :)

Thanks for the offer Graham, but the postage each way would be high as it's heavyish.

Although the return postage would be somewhat lighter. :)

Pete, I might try astroboot but there again postage.

Buy 3 items and postage is free, even if the other two are £1 each.

I bet somebody would want at least £20 for an hour of their lathe time and tool wear. So have a look, it might be the cheapest option. However, I do know that Graham works much faster than most others and is always the right price ;)

I just put a single 2kg weight in the cart, and it came up £1.50 postage :)
