Telrad to Synta

Wasn't sure what section to put this in but I suppose it is a type of mount :)

Does anyone know where in the UK/Europe I can get the adapter to fit a Telrad to a Synta (Skywatcher) finder shoe please.

Can get them from several places in the US but shipping will be more than the cost of the adapter!

Cheers.

Flo sell the Telrad risers in two sizes - so too do 365Astronomy. :)

Scratch that - I just re-read your post - my bad lol.

I can only see them in US websites too - maybe Teleskop Service can help. Or maybe you can find a way of attaching it to a suitable sized dovetail? Maybe Graham can knock up something appropriate?

I found some others on the laptop that incorporates a riser, but can't find it now on my phone.

Looks like everyone buys the scopestuff american one.

I would get a flat piece of aluminium and bolt a synta dovetail from below into the aluminium and then bolt the telrad with base into the top of aluminium.

That is what I was thinking, but if you are struggling for a couple of hours spare time, 20 dollars or thereabouts could save a lot of effort :)

Thanks for the idea Clive, but I really wouldn't want that tatty bit of extrusion going anywhere near my scopes, even in the dark.  :P   I'm surprised they would even try to sell that on astroboot, I'd chuck it straight in the bin. :D

I will PM "a man that can", cheers Graham. :2thumbsup:

  • 2 weeks later...

I have just received the Telrad to Synta mount from Graham, and he has produced a superb bespoke accessory. There is nothing else like this available this side of the Atlantic Ocean. :)

He has carefully machined it from two separate lumps of aluminium. It slots perfectly into any Synta, Skywatcher, Orion or Baader finder shoe (they are all the same). This saves sticking the Telrad base to the scope tube using sticky fixers. The plastic Telrad base has two 4mm holes in it through which it is bolted with stainless bolts through the matching holes in Grahams aluminium top plate. It conveniently incorporates a built-in 2" riser, which sets it nicely away from the telescope tube, and is anodized in black. It is just a ten second job to fit it to any scope with a standard finder shoe, and it can be swapped between different scopes without requiring extra Telrad bases.

Excellent job, thank you Graham :2thumbsup:

You'll get rich on that one piece alone by the time everyone has bought it - gotta be the "cats eyes" of amateur astronomy lol - nice one Graham. :)

I think Graham should be advertising this to a wider audience.

Some people, me included, don't like sticky fixing things. Others may have problems finding space to stick a Telrad base on their refractor OTA. This mounting accessory is the ideal answer to these niggles and is so quick and convenient to fit or swap from scope to scope. It also looks very smart.

Good one Graham
