Hi Felix,

If you open with wordpad, put in the middle as the end of file (ctrl-z) will not be affected. I tend to keep like objects together, so I would put  below another comet in ssystem.ini. Don't forget to change all the ssystem.ini files that stellarium created, there will be at least one in  documents&settings\<username>\application data\stellarium\data as well as in the stellarium\data folder in programs.

Glad the adapter turned up.

Cheers

Hi Felix,

Great stuff,  your getting a dab hand at editing that ssystem.ini file now!

ha ha not at all Damian, just a dab hand at cutting and pasting! youre the one doing all the work with the code :)

Hi Damian,

I'm having trouble with this.

I put the text in ssystem.ini in the data folder but searches don't come up with any other folder with a ssystem.ini file.

I tried searching for ISON and PANSTARRS within Stellarium but it says "Simbad lookup: Not found".

Any ideas?

Cheers, Pete.

Hi Pete, firstly you new to go to program files stellarium, data and place the code in that ssystem.ini file and also you need to find the appdata roaming file and there will be another identical ssystem.ini file in there-place the code in that file too and then restart stellarium. Then in the search function in stellarium search for the comets by their below names don't type the actual name in brackets :)

C/2012 s1 (ISON)

C/2012 L1 (PANSTARRS)

Hi Pete,

If you scroll up I have detailed the locations of the ini files. stellarium is a little tinker, creates two and they both need to be done.

documents&settings\<username>\application data\stellarium\data      and

stellarium\data folder in programs folders

If you have no comet data then you just need to cut and paste and put in the middle of the ssystem.ini file.

Done today as fed up with the bloomin lurgy and needed to get the grey cells going !!!

Drop in the lappy / net book but not until we have got rid of this bug.

Cheers

Thanks Felix.

I had a thorough search of the whole hard disk, but it seems there is only the one ssystem.ini file which is in the data folder, no appdata or roaming folders.

I did try searching under the full names as well, but nothing came up.

Puzzling.

Cheers.

Its there somewhere Pete. Make sure you have full access to the root directory and the subsequent trees underneath.

It will be in one of the paths above. Quickest would to adjust the one you find then copy it to the other directory.

Thanks Damian.

I don't seem to have a "documents&settings\<username>\application data\stellarium\data" folder, just the "stellarium\data" folder.

This is Linux though, but surely there should be a second file somewhere, but I just can't find another under the name ssystem.ini.

Thanks.

Downgrade to windows :D ....

There has to be a way to do it in Linux :P .

I might have to defect temporarily to the Stellarium or Linux forums :D .

Thanks Damian,

I have just posted on a Stellarium help forum and emailed a Stellarium developer.

Hi Pete,

Done some digging, between sneezing coughing & eye watering! Should be ok so long as you put into the middle and watch out for the end of the file. There have been dev versions to v12 available since nov. So should be interesting to see what comes out.

Cheers

Damian

ps.

Don't come near, would not wish this on anyone!
