Lack of colour in images

I'm imaging with a starwave ed80, no reducer and a canon 1100d and I'm really struggling to get much colour from my images. I did the dumbell neb last night but as I said there is hardly any colour. Detail looks ok. I have a skywatcher light pollution filter in and was doing 2.5 min subs. X40 of them. Has anyone come across this kind of problem or am I expecting too much?

Thanks!

I think a lot of the colour is put in by processing and not actual colour - but I dont do AP so sure someone else will explain

think you would have to let us see the data and say how you stacked and processed it before we can make a comment??

a fair bit can be done in the processing Phil, but it`s hard not seeing what you`ve done so far, if you have a very narrow histgram when opened in photoshop you`ll need to widen it for the best results, best done in levels, but i know what you mean, i have and still do struggle getting lots of colour from my efforts and unless it is a very bright object like m42 i really found it difficult to pull out the colour and detail.

i`m sure someone will come to your help with better suggestions but post an image of what you have already, ideally in png format not jpeg, then people can use the image and try processing it.

I don't do ap, but a lot of photography and processing. Red Dwalf has it in one. You will have produced an image with a very narrow histogram. To get detail and colour you need to stretch the histogram produced. There was a very good article in s@n a while back if you do a search I am sure you will find it or search on stretcing histogram.

If you're struggling with colour, don't hold back on the saturation. You should be able to pull out the colour to make a natural looking image.

Thanks for your time guys! Was playing with it and I found if I process the image from dss without aligning the channels etc in 32 bit, stretch the histogram then change it to 16 bit and stretch it further I get alot better results! Had a quick blast with it and got some nice colour out of it but not sure if I'm losing data doing this?? Will keep trying tonight and see what I can do. Thanks again.

This is what I have managed. It's not how I want it as I was just playing with it so will try again tonight. Plus its a phone upload into photobucket so quality is down. Will pop another one when I can get it right. It's not too bad as I'm still new to it
