Thought I'd show some pics of my (second hand) SW 250 flex.

She's a year old now...

And still lots to do  !!

I decided to put the light shroud between the flextubes...it's neoprene..

The business end..

Wixey, Telrad, home made autofocuser, red LED, Parallizer with ES 2x focal ext. plus starguider ED 25mm

All I need to do now is install encoders and hook up the scope to SkySafari.

yes...true..

Although encoders are very difficult to get here...will have to make a plan.

Tinkering never ends for a dob owner...thank the Lord..

I would rather go the degree circle for azimuth and a wixey for the altitude then get encoders.

Cheaper and in reality if done correct just as accurate.

I also use degree circle and wixey and like yourself get accuracy enough to put the object into a 1° field of view. I use  Cartes du ceil to give me the Alt/Az degree's this is run from a cheap note book solely used for astronomy connected to a 12v battery.

I'd like to get a small notebook or PDA.

I now drag my laptop outside running Stellarium.

When I use my phone with Skeye the coordinates between the two don't coincide.

So I'm looking to buy either Stellarium for Android or SkySafari Plus..

Not sure yet...in the meantime I'll just use my laptop..

I too have a wixey and a setting circle and I use Sky Safari Pro on my IPhone, has a red screen feature so I do not ruin my night adaptation.

I can find most objects in seconds with it, dont see the point of encoders when you can find things that fast.

I find the screen to small on my iphone must be old age

 and they don't cost £££££'s for a "phone".

Not really I pay £20 per month for unlimted calls, texts and internet only works out about 64p a day and you can do loads on a phone, only problem is screen is a tad small to use an astronomy program on especially when it's glowing red.

But if you already have said phone, then an app is cheaper than encoders!

I agree with Mick.

My phone has a big screen, but is too small for night time use for my liking. But then I like everything wide angle anyway :)

depends on the cost of the phone - decent remote encoder is £40 - thats encoder and cable and remote display - looks like Wixey.

I use smoke signals to contact people.

But for those of us with naff eye sight (even with glasses) 4 inch screen isn't much use and any bigger and my trousers would fall down.

But eye's ok then phone ok.
