Hi Dave,

Warm welcome to EMS, if you have not done so already download a planetarium program. Lots out there but try Stellarium, its great and free!  to be found here ;--- http://www.stellarium.org/  . a couple of books to help you 'turn left at orion' and 'sky&telescope pocket star atlas' these will help guide you round the sky.

Look out also from some of the Lincs members on the forum.

Small world :) .

I'm about 3 miles from Garibaldi. Damian (Absterreo) is even closer.

If you have any questions about stargazing or equipment, don't hesitate to ask in the beginners section.

He he, used to think Garibaldi was a biscuit until we moved here. Lots of help and advice on here Dave. Fifty posts gets you access to the classified section, look out for good used kit. If you can get along to one of the meets then you'll be able to see what kit others have too.

This isn't SGL Damian :) . Don't think you need 50 posts for anything on EMS. Just 10 post to be able to use the Personal Messenger.

Hi Dave and welcome to the forum. There are a few of us in Lincolnshire. We meet monthly at our dark site at Badger Farm near Asterby in the Lincolnshire Wolds between Horncastle and Louth. The skies are lovely and dark and I mean proper dark. You would be more than welcome to join us if you wanted to pop along to one of our meetings. We have a range of scopes and knowledge between us and would be more than happy to help you with any questions you may have. Also most importantly we have fresh tea and coffee. :)

@Tweedledee, didn't think you did SGL :D ... I'll be posting some free stuff from the bits box (the garage!!) there.

I've been on SGL longer than EMS and have posted there twice!! Won't be getting any Black Friday bargains from classifieds :D .

Hi Dave, a warm welcome to EMS.

I hope the weather clears a bit so you can get out and have a bash with your new scope. There are some nice objects to see, Jupiter will be rising at a reasonable time soon, and is high in the morning sky at the moment.

I know binoculars have been mentioned, and are sometimes available at Aldi or Lidl for around Twenty quid. Don't get the Zoom ones though, they have a very poor field of view. These will give you a better view of open clusters like the Pleiades and M44, the Beehive cluster than what a scope can.

Early evening still has Cygnus and the Milky way around, and that area is well worth just getting lost in.

I hope you enjoy the forum and feel free to ask any questions you might have. :)
