I don't think we are seeing as much as your son saw from Iceland. I'd love to go there :)

Nice image

In the top photo you have the lower back end of Ursa Major and to the bottom right of the Aurora you have Leo rising with the planet Jupiter to the upper right. Jupiter is the brightest on in the top right of the picture.

Lovely picture! You were asking if we could recognise any stars etc... This is a challenge!

Not sure what time this was took or in which direction... :-) But, Sticking my neck out :-) :

it looks like bottom left bright star is Arcturus. (Or a street lamp :-))

Top left (nearest the corner) looks like a double, so could be Alcor and Mizar in Ursa Major.

So top of picture left of aurora looks like bottom half of the plough. With Megrez, Dubhe just outside the top of the picture...

In the aurora 2!3 up, it looks like Tania borealis and Tania Austalis

The bright object could be Jupiter - it is in that general direction, it depends what time it was.

Then again I could be totally wrong, can anyone else confirm this...

You beat me to it Mark, I am getting too long winded! At least we agree! That was fun...

It is the plough and Jupiter, I don't think it would be a street lamp as they were in the middle of no where

Lol, it was my little joke really, but you never know next to the horizon :-)

It was good fun working through the picture, but Alcor and Mizar was the big clue...
