Last time I used my 916 was for DSO stuff when the nights were darker so a while ago.

Got it out today to try it on the PST.

Checked inside the nose piece for foreign bodies to find the chip has exploded for want of a better word.

There is now a crack running like a streak of lightening right across the chip.

I have no idea what has caused this to happen as the camera has not moved since I put it away after that night.

It is times like this I wonder why I bother.

My sympathies Graham! I don't understand it either, but I fully understand how you must feel! I wonder if this has happened to anyone else out there? Is it still under warranty?

Well the weirdest thing has just happened.

I pulled the camera apart to take the chip out.

The very instant the pins came out of the socket the crack vanished.

It just literally vanished before my eyes.

I have reassembled the 916 and am going to try it out.

If any of you in EMS land have any explanation I would love to hear it.

Obviously it was holding some sort of electrostatic charge on the chip which dissipated the instant the chip was unplugged.

Any ideas, I am just glad I had a photo of it as I would think I was going mad.

I have just tested it and ---------- it is absolutely perfect.

No trace of this weird artefact at all.

Well I am back to my normal joyous self again

Thats a real oddity, but glad its working :)

maybe the chip is breaking down, caused by induced static, meaning somebody touched it with their fingers a while back or maybe it just needed time to run as its been unused for sometime?
