I get to look after a Canon 100-400mm F1.4 ED L series lens and to tell you the truth it doesn't do much better than the ST80 It has a 76mm Objective and costs 15x more than the ST80. The only real plus is the image stabilazation, with a L series 1.4x teleconverter and the 400mm lens it can still be hand held for Solar imaging.
