Venus (and sun) 22/08/15

My reward for cutting the grass yesterday was to try for a daytime Venus again. I wanted to have a go last Saturday when it was at inferior conjunction but errands kept me busy until it clouded over so I missed the chance.

There was thin cloud yesterday so I thought I may be out of luck again but Venus is so bright it seems to be able to punch through. It's also hard to focus with so little contrast and reflections off the computer screen. That's my excuse anyway . 

The sun just fits the ASI120 across ways but gets about 2/3 in height ways so this is 2 images stuck together. It went a bit wrong on the right edge but I was too far into the process to go back and correct it when I noticed it . I think it's the same sun spot as I posted 2 weeks ago so it was nice to see how it had evolved.

The kit was the same as last time. Sky-Watcher ST102's ROCKS

There's some thing quite satisfying about finding venus in the day time. It's great for doing out reach and most people think it's the moon to start with.

Hi Tony. It's a home made effort using Baader solar safety film. I posted a pic of it a few days ago under "Solar Finder". The film is sandwiched  between two cardboard rings (double sided tape) and then glued (PVA) to the tube. The tube sticking out of the front is to stop me putting my fingers on the surface of the filter.
