Hi myself and the wife have always been interested in space and stars, especially when camping in Cornwall on the Lizard, the kids have all grown up and flown the nest, so now seems a good time, to have a go at star gazing, we don't have any equipment yet but are thinking of getting the 15x70 Celestron binoculars for a start, is there a good dark area for viewing the eclipse in this area.

we will be going to the meet at the space center on the 22nd September, also to Stoneleigh 2nd October, so that we can see the other equipment that we fancy, among other things, that may take are fancy.

you would think in Leicester with the University's space center, they would have a star gazers shop.

I am also a keen beekeeper and Photographer.

The weather forecast seems to be wrong for today, so far, the Sun is shining.

Hope it stays clear on 27/28th.

Hi John, a warm welcome to the forum.

The 15X70s will certainly show you another level of the sky, and really bring out the best in the larger clusters such as the Pleiades and the Beehive.

You will also get a good look at what is on offer at the IAS, if you are thinking about buying a scope, let us know what budget you have and what you intend to use it for, ie. visual, folks will happily provide you with suggestions.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have, someone will be along to help out.

Enjoy the forum. :)

Hello and welcome to EMS.

A pair of bins is a really good way to get into astronomy, you will be able to get a nice view of some open clusters.

Hi welcome aboard. Bins are a great way to start out. If you can try to have a play with some scopes before you start to think about buying one. Everyone has a differing opinion, it's a case of deciding what you want to do and what suits you.

We have a dark site at Wymeswold, which isn't far from you. Keep an eye open in the info and announcements section, next time we get over there you would be very welcome to come over and say hi. I am sure you would be able to have a look through a few scopes and get some use from your new bino's in a reasonably dark sky.
