Long Eaton Astronomical Society Next Meeting

Recommended Posts

Due to unforeseen circumstances the scheduled meeting on 24th Sept has had to be moved to the 1st of October. Our guest speaker on the 1st will be Phil Sutton of Loughborough University who will be talking to us about the Cassini mission.

Phil says: “For over a decade the Cassini spacecraft has been in orbital around Saturn. Initially only intended to survive a 4 year mission it is now in its 10th year. Saturn and its rings are the ideal astrophysical laboratory for studying an early solar system and planet formation. In this talk I will discuss some of the most important discoveries made to date, which incidentally covers only a fraction of what we have learnt from Cassini.â€

Afterwards if the weather is favourable we shall have a hunt for a planetary nebula all being well. As always the meeting start time is 6:30pm with refreshments from 6:15pm.
