Our NEXT MAIN MEETING will be held this Friday, 2nd October 2015 from 7:30 pm onwards at The Friends Meeting House, St. Helens Street, Derby, DE1 3GY. Unfortunately Martin Griffiths from the University of South Wales has had to cancel his talk so DDAS member Dr Mike Lancaster has stepped in and will be giving his popular talk In the Footsteps of Flamsteed. This follows the life and work of Derbyshire born astronomer John Flamsteed who became the first Astronomer Royal and was instrumental in setting up the Royal Greenwich Observatory. Among his many achievements Flamsteed provided the observational data that enabled Newton to prove his theory of gravitation and compiled a catalogue of around 3000 star positions with unprecedented accuracy. There is a room fee which is £3 for non-members and £1 for members. There will be a raffle with astronomy book prizes and coffee is provided during the break. Why not join us for refreshments at the Seven Stars afterwards?
