First Light with the SXV-H9 CCD

Recommended Posts

StevenWhatley

Well last yesterday I got ready for first light with my new camera and well what a stressful few hours that was...

Firstly I moved my guide scope to the top centre of the scope (it used to be on the left hand side) as I kept noticing that the scope wasn't balanced it would swing that way.. which meant that I had to move my Red Dot finder to the left side, all fine except they are now both out of centre and I need to align them again. GRRR

So I spent quite a while fiddling trying to achieve focus which I finally achieved on Vega :D then had to match up the autoguider and dot finder another task as it was all at a funny angle...

I got sat down to start playing and was just baffled by the complexity of Starlight's guiding process, as you cannot use their Autoguider with PHD :wallbash: You can the Lodestar just not the Autoguider.. (please please correct me if I'm wrong)  so as with the urgency to try the main CCD out I took that off and stuck the Altair Cam back on..

I then popped that HA filter on the camera swung around to IC1805 and took a 600s exposure of a cloud !!!!!!!!!!!!!!     went inside and sulked !

now to wait for a clear night to try again.

Are you sure the guide camera isn't ascom compatiable, if it is you should just be able to choose ascom camera from the phd 2 list, check starlight website to see if there's and updated driver.

Thought you had gone a different direction after getting rid of the Atik XXX CCD - PM me when you change again as the SXV-H9 would make a great EAA camera  :D

There is a guy on SGL who is a Wiz on Starlight camera's - writes the software called LodestarLive (now Starlight live or something) maybe he can help if you don't get anywhere - he seems to be "close" to Star Express. His ID is Paul81.

Good luck with your problem.

try plugging in the guider first and then adding the SX

I guide with a 716 and have to power that first or things don't go well
