Hello all, this is all very new to me and my son. We just got our first telescope after a fair bit of research a skywatcher 200p dob. We are still doing lots research on telescopes and the sky, reading on the net and watching lots of youtube vids.

So lots of learning to do and look forward to being part of this forum.

Thanks Craig

Hi Craig (and son).

Welcome to EMS and can I say, what a fine choice of first scope you have chosen.....   ;):P

If you need any help with your set-up, or have any questions, fire away in the relevant section and someone will be along soon to answer them.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the forum.

Welcome to EMS.

I agree you have picked maybe the best scope you could get for a beginner.

Well done and hope you enjoy the forum.

Hi Craig and welcome to EMS to you and your son.

I agree - you've picked probably the most popular proper beginner scope and a very useful instrument for stargazing. Hope you enjoy the forum and don't be hesitant with any questions no matter how elementary the seem - we enjoy helping beginners, or anyone for that matter. :)

Hi Craig and son.

A warm welcome to EMS. I can only echo the statement that you have got yourselves a cracking scope. Straight out of the box, they work well, but with  few DIY tweaks, you can make it very comfortable to use. Have a look round, a click in Daz's signiture will show you how far you can go.

If you haven't got it Stellarium is a very good free bit of planetarium software.

And some instructions to go with it.

Get used to your scope in daylight, so you know your way round it when it's dark, it just makes it a bit easier. Don't forget you will need really warm gear for extended stays out doors, keep your eyes open for cheap ways to do this. The budget supermarkets sometimes have ski gear and snow boots in.

Any questions, however daft you might think they are, just ask away.

Enjoy your new scope and make yourself at home here. :)
