+Graham Posted March 22, 2012 Share Posted March 22, 2012 Hi all. I had the pleasure of being involved in a building opening in the city center on Tuesday night. The 'entertainment finale' was the launch of a rocket. For obvious reasons we could not actually do a proper launch and had to revert to 'smoke and mirrors' to achieve the effect. The rocket itself was made by Ben 'rocket and roll' from SGL. He asked me to do the engineering and winch side of things. After setting it all up on the Friday and Monday we met at the venue on Tuesday morning to run some final tests. Then it was a case of waiting around for the big moment at 10 pm. The launch went off exactly to plan and was one of the most spectacular things I have whitnessed. The launch was accompanied by a sound track of a real rocket launch which was so lound the whole building was vibrating. In fact I was amazed that all the windows were still intact when it was all over. My ears were still ringing after I got back home to Ipswich at 3 30am on Wed morning. Although with all the traveling it ment doing a 23 hour day it was well worth it. I have posted up some photos I took when we did the final test.
