Rocket Launch in the middle of London

Hi all.

I had the pleasure of being involved in a building opening in the city center on Tuesday night.

The 'entertainment finale' was the launch of a rocket.

For obvious reasons we could not actually do a proper launch and had to revert to 'smoke and mirrors' to achieve the effect.

The rocket itself was made by Ben 'rocket and roll' from SGL.

He asked me to do the engineering and winch side of things.

After setting it all up on the Friday and Monday we met at the venue on Tuesday morning to run some final tests.

Then it was a case of waiting around for the big moment at 10 pm.

The launch went off exactly to plan and was one of the most spectacular things I have whitnessed.

The launch was accompanied by a sound track of a real rocket launch which was so lound the whole building was vibrating.

In fact I was amazed that all the windows were still intact when it was all over.

My ears were still ringing after I got back home to Ipswich at 3 30am on Wed morning.

Although with all the traveling it ment doing a 23 hour day it was well worth it.

I have posted up some photos I took when we did the final test.

I am standing on the top of a 5 story fire escape operating the winch.

Hi Andy.

It was video'd by a proper film crew on the night.

I am going to get a copy sent to me when it is finished.

The trouble was I could not operate the winch and film it at the same time.

I will post up a link when I get it.

thanks

Graham

Wahooo what fun - hope you got a good round of applause from the audience - it looks fabulous and well worth the 23hr day :)

Looking forward to the video !!

You joke Andy but we had to get police permission to take the rocket into London on the back of my truck and to do the launch.
