It will just be brighter than you might like without. The Herschel wedges are safe upto about 6 inch scopes. If you are concerned leave the big cap on and use the smaller aperture. I use a HW with my WO FLT132 refractor Tony. No concerns with heat build up etc. The wedge gets a little warm, but nothing more. The view is a little bright with 'just' the ND 3.0 filter.
