Our NEXT MAIN MEETING will be held this Friday, 3rd June 2016 from 7:30 pm onwards at The Friends Meeting House, St. Helens Street, Derby, DE1 3GY. DDAS member Anthony Southwell will be giving a talk on Pluto Revealed: The New Horizons Mission to the Frontier of the Solar System. There is a room fee which is £3 for non-members and £1 for members. There will be a raffle with astronomy book prizes and coffee is provided during the break. Why not join us for refreshments at the Seven Stars afterwards?

COME SEE SATURN AT OPPOSITION   The planet Saturn reaches opposition (opposite the Sun in the sky) on the 2nd-3rd June this year and is visible all night, being due south above the southern horizon at midnight. To observe the planet and take advantage of some dark skies for general viewing the DDAS will be holding an observing session at The Manor Golf Course, Leese Hill, Kingstone, Uttoxeter, ST14 8QT on the evening of Saturday, 4th June 2016. This site is not only dark but has a 360° un-obscured horizon. We will be meeting up at the Kings Highway pub, at Kingsway Retail Park in Derby between 8:30 to 9 pm and then travelling in cars to the site. If you would like more details please email Brian Dodson.
