More light pollution :(

Wow, just reading this and it's on the main BBC Breakfast News. It can only get worse with cheaper LED products as well. I find it amazing at the amount of energy used to just light the Planet up, it must be a massive amount that is generated and wasted. To put it in perceptive what would people say  if you had a kettle on all night long for no good reason, they would say  you were nuts. But cannot see that the same argument applies to the backyard security light.

Even if only viewed from a financial angle, it is a staggering waste of money and energy. Only a few years ago we were being encouraged not to use standby mode on the TV etc. and to switch off fully. That would have been a drop in the ocean compared to cutting down excessive lighting.

The petition to regulate light pollution is today showing a measly 5663. :(

That means less than one in twelve thousand of the population have shown any interest in it!

Surely, there must be more stargazers, birdwatchers, nature lovers or eco-friendly types around than this.

it costs a fortune to build a power station, get the stuff out of the ground to run it, polutes the enviorment makes sense to use our resources with thought -they will not last for ever.

If you are not using it turn it off

Very illuminating Pete! :)

I know that the seas cover two thirds of the globe and deserts cover about a third of the land mass...

This was patently clear from watching the rotating earth, beautiful as it looks from space, it also comes across as an obvious waste of energy and resources.
