M22

Recommended Posts

I don't know if it's possible to see from the East Midlands but I saw it last night through my 15x70s. It always seems brighter than its published magnitude would suggest. The whole area is rather interesting in binoculars or a widefield refractor.

Yes it is possible to see it from here, it's on my list of Messier objects seen, according to my notes, I saw it up at our Belper dark site, and a reflector with a 100 degree ep is OK in my opinion, as my 21mm TeleVue Ethos gives me a true FOV of 1.7 degrees, wonderful for a spot of wide field viewing.  Granted it's not the 4.4 degree of your bins but still gives pleasing wide field views while having a greater magnification.

Nice one Phil.

According to my notes I saw it from my back garden on the 03.07.2010 with my 16" dob and my Uwan's.

M22 would be a fantastic sight if higher in the sky. It is bigger and brighter than M13.

M13 = mag 5.8 size 1/3 degree

M22 = mag 5.1 size 1/2 degree

Many people have said that M22 is brighter than M13. It was a very clear night on Sunday. I even caught the Milky Way "on film" from my suburban home.
