I actually looked through a telescope last night

Stand no chance of anything below 20degrees South from my obs so I set up my Meade 127 at the top of the back yard so I stood a chance of Mars and Saturn.

Mars doesn't half shift when its going away from opposition. Last time I looked was a couple of days after opp and last night it was much smaller and had a definite gibbous appearance. The usual #80a blue filter teased some detail oyt but conditions weren't the best. Polar hood was evident and Acidalia but that's about all I could grab. I had a go with the polarising filter and this helped more than I expected in picking out contrast.

Saturn. 3 moons I reckon???? one was very iffy, Titan and 2 others but didn't have my lappy with Skymap so cant say which they were, will check later. Rings superbly placed with Cassini division easy and cloud belts on the disc.

Albireo of course.

Epsilon Lyra split easy

M13

M57 and 27 in O111 as it was still a bit light

61 Cygni

A nice couple of hours, most spent on the 2 planets but it was nice to get out and play with my toys again, I needed the reminder that I am an Astronomer

You had a good night Phil ?, glad you are enjoying a bit of visual ?

Also Jupiter will soon be out of the picture, it is for me from the dome unless i try before 10.30pm, cos of trees...

i thought M27 was particularly bright last night, despite the light background. I see you had a look at the beautiful albireo, I forgot to look at it,  but there are lots of goodies out there at the moment...

cheers!

Glad you had a nice session. You saw some interesting stuff and some detail in the tiny disk of Mars. I'm going to have to learn about what planetary details can be brought out by what filter.

Im lazy these days with Mars and Jupiter Pete. I almost always end up using the blue 80a filter. It works so well on both planets.
