New service to be trial run.

12 posts in this topic

I am going to trial run a new service I am thinking of running.

Basically it will be a mobile version of what I am doing now with the mount servicing and modifications.

Instead of you sending your mounts down to me I will come to you.

This has a couple of advantages that I can see.

1. -  You and I do not have to entrust your mount to some courier service.

2. -  No down time for you.

3. -  I can set the mount up in your environment using the kit you will be running on it.

To start with this will be a weekend service only as I work full time.

Let me know what you think.

I think that is fantastic idea Graham, could be a bit of a logjstical nightmare, hours spent in the car ETC but I think it's a service people will pay for.

Perhaps keep the postal service on as well, but I think it's a great idea.

Thanks Darren.

Been toying with this one for a while now.

Be interesting to see what the demand is.

Should get an idea by sounding out folks at Kelling next week? :)

Good on you Graham!

I am sure your services will be in demand. How are you going to get the message out, listing your range of services etc? 👍

Excellent idea Graham, it will certainly be a unique service. You will be able to help a lot of astronomers and imagers who find themselves in a fix coming up to a star party or astronomical event, or just eager to get operational again. Good luck with that.

Pity you don't work with wood and dob mounts. :D

Thanks Stephen.

No advertising plans in place at the moment.

Still working on that side of things.

Pretty much the same here graham, until you can weld wood, that's someone else's domain. My mate Clive is a wood butcher good at working with wood, he'made some lovely tables out of black walnut.

Congrats mate

The Peripatetic Mountman, there you go that's your van sign sorted :D

Sounds a great idea but as Daz says the logistics could be a problem. Are you prepared to drive to the other end of the country?

Your time and travel costs have got to be factored in, will this be cheaper than postage? Or are you going to limit your working radius, if so that reduces your customer base.

All things that need to be mulled over, perhaps advertise with a certain radius to begin with, see how that works then if OK go further afield. You will have to go further afield eventually as you fix all the mounts up within a reasonable drive-to radius.

Sorry, I get criticised by the missus about me doing this with our business, it takes the fun out of it to look at it from a financial point of view but in this day and age you've got to cover all angles if you want to make just a few quid.

No worries.

Got to look at this thing from all the angles.

The laugh is this first job is less than five miles away.
