Popular Post Tweedledee Posted October 17, 2016 Popular Post Share Posted October 17, 2016 Took the dogs to the local park about 7.30pm tonight and as a last minute thought, I picked up my 8x42 3D bins and found they fitted nicely in my coat pocket. By the time I got there I was reasonably dark adapted and knew the moon had just risen, but shaded myself from it by keeping it behind some trees. Spent the next 3/4 of an hour scanning around with the bins and the dogs had a nice time running around. The park was surprisingly dark, and I was pleased that the one bright street lamp at one entrance that used to illuminate most of the park and annoy me, was not working. In that time no one else came anywhere near the park, just me the dogs and some bats. The sky was ok, but there was a hazyness being illuminated more as to moon rose higher. Had an unexpectedly good session with enjoyable views of the following DSO's... M31 M34 M45 Mel 20 Double Cluster Collinder 29 Kembles Cascade NGC752 Golf Putter asterism M2 M15 M39 M13 M92 Coathanger M27 IC4665 M11 M26 Little Delphinus asterism Little Cassiopiea asterism Also saw some very pleasing rich star fields near the zenith from Cepheus to Cygnus and around the crimson Garnet Star. Might take the 15x70's there for the next dog walk. I'm liking the idea of combining these activities on these darker evenings. Not a major problem though, the park is quite large and there are parts where the light cannot be seen. Cazz Posted October 18, 2016 Share Posted October 18, 2016 He is sometimes, but then he goes back to bed lol, and sometimes I have to wake him up! He was estimated at being 4 or 5 when my friend adopted him, she had him 8 years, that means he's an estimated 12 or 13, but he does look and act a lot older as this year has gone on :-/ so I let him off lol. I've had my wife phoning to make sure I'm ok at 3am, after I'd said I'll only be an hour and will be in bed by midnight.
