Teddy bears picnic, Elvaston Castle, 23rd July.

We be coming along to the teddy bears picnic at Elvaston castle on the 23rd of July for another solar observing session. Please come along and join us for a chance to look at our star, the Sun. Don't forget to bring  your teddy bear and some clear skies.

Well that was a good day. A nice steady flow of people. We did manage to get some views of the sun in white light and Ha, venus put in an apearance and even had a quick glimpse at Jupiter and Spica, they were so close I thought my optics were off to start with. First time ive seen either in the day. Unfortunately the cloud soon put the downer on that one.

Packed up just before the heavens opened. Thank to all the members that were able to help out.

What a great day, and the weather wasn't as bad as I was expecting - though it did throw it down as we left the site! That was good timing!

 

After the rain we had had on Friday and Saturday I was expecting the field to be waterlogged, but it wasn't at all bad. 

 

Good bits:  showing off the Sun to members of the public, and talking rubbish to other Society members throughout the day

Not so good bits:  didn't take any sandwiches, and had a dog pee over our large society poster

 

A big thank you to all the members who came along for the day - it was well worth the effort.

 

All in all, and really good day, and one we are sure to do next year.
