Eddie's Coffin

I have for a long time been transporting the ED80 wrapped in a duvet. Time for a change!

Searching through my extensive stockpile of odds and ends of ply I found a likely candidate piece of 2 x 4ft 3/4 ply. So I ripped it down with the circular whirling wheel of death into strips to make the sides and ends. A piece of 1/4 ply forms the base and is glued and pinned on. This will not be load bearing when complete, it is just there to stop things falling out of the bottom and to keep the whole thing enclosed. Another piece of 1/4 will form the lid top.

I have a deadline of making it functional by the end of this week as I am off away for a couple of nights with the rig. I have some over centre latches in my collection of "precious items" as well as a pair of sturdy handles. A length of piano hinge will be the only purchase required. So far I have the sides and ends fixed to the bottom. Tomorrow comes the chopping off of the top 3 inches to form the lid and also the cradle for inside to hold the ED80 secure. I do intend making a couple of lift out trays for odds and ends, a bahtinov mask retention device and filter rack in the voids left over in the box.

It is also the first time I have had proper need to use the mallet I made out of firewood earlier in the year.

P.s. The man cave is usually much tidier! It's giving me shivers looking at the mess lately.

It will stop armour piercing rounds though. :D

Nice bit of shedding there. You have to detune your shed tidiness emotions when you have a project on the go, the project and sustaining the average brew rate are priorities.

Ahh shed work is alive and living in Long Eaton :D Nice one Mike

I use a B&Q soft toolbag when transporting my Eddie, got it years ago when I had an ST120 and it fits the 80 perfectly.

All working.

Forgot to take a picture of the handles that are pretty heavy duty. Acquired some piano hinge for free so total spend is nothing!

Next step is to finish sanding it off and make a few holders for various bits and bobs and probably fit some sort of device to stop the lid opening too far and stressing the hinge screws. That said though, the lid does make a very handy tray........ Also need to tidy the man cave, it's a tip!

Today's effort before work is a lift out tray. Woodwork is not my strong point so I'm quite happy with it all so far.WP_20171019_11_38_02_Pro.thumb.jpg.692d5743ff8a274244cd8af5db66bab3.jpg
