Not sure how CCTV beefs up security to be honest, it's OK after the fact if they are on camera and its infocus and you can actually see them.

If you stick a dummy cam up in a spot where it is seen might deter somebody otherwise make things look harder to get into.

More a piece of mind thing ,remote access via an app so  can check , and also i will be able to track down the dog owner who keeps letting his dog cr**p on my path

I was going to suggest a  dog. Even a small one that makes a lot of noise does the job. Burglars don't want to get into a confrontation, they just want your stuff. I would also suggest checking your home insurance. Not everything you have may be covered.

Mulling things over ,could possibly go this route https://www.kenable.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=9137 +https://www.kenable.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=9264 +https://www.kenable.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=8424 +HDD +POE switch ++network power adapter (got them)+cables, will check with  vendor before ordering ,Dont want a dog , currently booby trapped shed with line tied to buckets full of hammers and chisels if the door opens theyre falling on a concrete floor will make a considerable sound ,will upgrade lock on shed to a dead bolt

Well after trolling the internet I have gone for a, Hikvision  spoe system simplified power over Ethernet, 3tb NVR 1x 4mp camera, will add a further camera to front once I’m happy with this set up , http://www.cctvkits.co.uk/hiwatch-by-hikvision-1-4-camera-4mp-ip-cctv-camera-kit-builder.html

I was looking myself at this sort of stuff a few weeks ago.

You can get a doorbell now with a video feed that ties into your wifi network.

cctv installed ,took a bit of work getting cable through wall due to top of cavity being bricked off ,but all working now may need to tweak settings but nothing major ,dropped fps to 10 fps ,resolution to best ,camera is a  4Mp 6mm lens 55 degree bullet camera ,set to continuous record onto a 3TB HDD ,have app on phone and liveview on pc,will now add cam to front now im happy with FOV

  • 2 weeks later...

Front camera now fitted , maybe should have gone for a 4mm lens rather than 6mm but car and gates are covered and I’m not invading anyone else’s privacy
