Dash cam ordered

I could do with a dashcam, but haven't got a clue about them.

To all you dashcam experts who've already studied the specs...
What are the main features I need in a dashcam?
Price is not a problem, but I would want it to be hardwired so the cables disappear.
Is Davids dashcam THE ONE to get?

Will it show much of the Orion Nebula through the windscreen at 30mph? :D

Any suggestions or info welcome.

I ordered hard wire kit as well  also no battery has a super capacitor, no screen access via phone  , see what it’s like when it turns up .

Nextbase, Mio and Garmin seem to be well recommended in the Dashcam world.

I got mine from Lidl, £40. excellent video, auto recording on sensing a shock which can't be deleted and a x4 zoom. It has about a 150° field of view.

My better half had the full kit and caboodle in her new car.

Front and rear cameras.

Cost a small fortune as it was professionaly fitted as part of the price.

She can access it from anywhere on her phone.

Bloody thing will even ring her up with a video if something happens when it is parked up.

The cameras are always operating but without writing to the memory card.

If something does happen it downloads the previous 30 seconds before the event took place so you don't miss anything.

Talk about big brother

I had mine from these guys. Their advice and support is very good and they aren't tied into one particular make. http://www.carcamerashop.co.uk/ I fitted it myself but they do offer that service as well. Mine is a Blackview front and rear setup with a power supply unit that keeps it working at all times. One important thing to consider that never seems to get mentioned - exactly where to fit it! One of the reasons I had that one was because it had to fit to the right of the mirror; to the left it wasn't within the sweep of the wipers. Any other shape would have had to be fitted so low down, it would have obscured my view.

One other point - if your dashboard has a speaker grille top/middle, try to get a camera with a polarising lens otherwise you'll get a really good reflection of it into the camera when driving into the sun...
