Got a bit of blue sky half an hour after it finished, but wrong part of the sky. Just typical observing weather I suppose, even Sir Patrick can't beat it, so we stand no chance.

It would have made everyones day if it had been visible. Even our man in Thailand (Ely Ellis) didn't see it! We'd be looking at our own images of it now.

I saw the the 2004 Venus and 2003 Mercury and they were quite inspirational through a 4" SCT and baader film :)

You win some, you lose some. 35 miles each way so was not too far. Lot of wildlife about early on though and also no traffic so it could have been worse.

When I got back from Huttoft there was a small break in the cloud over head but by the time I got set up it was totally cloudy again, the cloud never broke in the direction of the sun.

But did you get your keys out of the car?

I sat up and watched the NASA thing for a while before kipping in a chair with the car loaded up and ready to go. I woke at 3.30 to check things out...no chance. I found checking the weather forecast 20 times times in half an hour made no difference to the cloud cover at all, it was worth a try though.

How cool would it have been to have watched first contact on the NASA site at sun set and then waited to see it this side of the pond at dawn as it left the disc...very cool I would have thought.

Yes Carl, managed to get in tonight, a bit of a fiddle for me but if you had criminal intentions and a bit of practice it would be easy, scary.

Makes you wonder about the blokes who design these kind of things "form or "function" a bit of both you would have thought
