Picture of the Month May 2018

Recommended Posts

Sorry about the delay for the POTM round up folks but I was away for a week, semi hols, semi work, but enjoyable non the less.

Well havent you been busy? quite a bag this month to go through, I didnt realise there were that many clear nights.

Deep Sky

Some nice colours in dave.hardy2 s M63 here https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14334-m63/ and I like the Iris nebula shot here

https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14401-the-iris-nebula/ good colour and great detail in the dark nebula/dust

Another galaxy M101 from 8472

Another image with good colour and plenty of detail is Derbyshire Dave s M81

https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14372-m81-from-holloway/  then he gave us a good M51

I managed brushed up on Maxim with a southern object

Talking of colour, theres some good colour in Alecs M13

A nice Ha Elephants trunk from Brady

and Ron Clarke had a go as well

Another Ha here, the Crescent from Joe

And an Ha Crescent from Graham

plus a nice shot of SH2 101

A great set of lunar detail from Ibbo

plus a mosaic

I got the date wrong with my May 22nd lunar

DeanWatson gave us a shot of the Alpine Valley

https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14462-vallis-alpes-cassini-etc/ despite cloud it is still a good detailed shot.

A few more planet images this month, great to see.

Several lovely shots of Jupiter and Saturn from Ibbo as he puts the C11 through its paces, my favourites being

A GRS progression https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14360-jupiter-7-5-2018-grs/

Here's a planet we don't often see from this aspect, perkil8r s high altitude shot from his balloon project https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14440-earth-process-21052018/

we had a few sunny days this month with Ibbo and Graham giving us some images, a few of my favourites here

A few more widefield shots than normal this month, great stuff

A very atmospheric shot from Chris P https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14363-moon-rising-over-nordfjord/

IC1396 from 3472 https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14411-130518-ic-1396/

A nice Milky Way shot from Chris P https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14417-milky-way-over-the-peak-district-17th-may-2018/

And another Milky Way shot this time from 8472. https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14446-21-05-18-milky-way-over-ogsten-reservoir/

Well its not an easy one this month, (never is actually). There are 2 sets of images which stood out for me for various reasons, that's Derbyshire Daves galaxies and 8472s (Kev) Milky way over Ogsten Reservoir.

And after a lot of deliberation I am going to give Derbyshire Daves M81 the POTM May 2018 title

Why? Colour, detail and sympathetic  processing.

Thanks Phil, did you get the rock? ?

Stock yes, rock no unfortunately. Still it was a nice break.

Just remembered, the POTM review at the end of this month will be a couple of days late again Im afraid, (another jolly, not work related this time so may get some rock).

Derbyshire Dave

Thank you for all of the kind comments, very much appreciated. For the record I’d just like to re-iterate how much I love Kev’s Mily Way shot...
