My Observatory

I love to see what fellow astronomers come up with when designing their observatories. This is my little telescope house its been standing for about 12 years now and housed many scopes.

Originally the front shutter that had to be opened and closed manually, to be honest it wasn't that big of a deal. But as it evolved into a fully automated observatory I had to come up with a mechanism that would not only roll the roof back but would shut the front shutter too. So this is what i came up with. This shows my AG12 and my largest and most used scope. It operates using a garage door opener wired to a USB board linked to the PC....works really well. For added protection I have a cloud watcher for those changeable nights.

That's marvellous and very quiet in operation. Was looking at that the other night on your Astropix website. Nice to hear the birds twittering. Bet you have loads of wildlife around there. ?

Thanks Pete, The observatory has served well. My website is a bit rough and ready at the moment, I'm still learning on the web front.   For some reason I cant seem to get the captions to show in the gallery, yet on the equipment page they seem to be there no problem.

You certainly notice the wildlife while in the observatory with all manner of noises in the dark, Owls, badgers and who knows what else.
