Meteor capture software

OK so I've got a decent astro camera and a wide-angle 'meteor' lens for it.

What I would like would be to be able to leave it running continuously, and record the most recent 15 seconds or so if it spots a meteor.  Or recording a video loop of 3 - 5 minutes duration, then over-writing it if nothing unusual happened.

Is there any software that comes even close to doing that?

I don't know whether such a device exists or not. I use an intervalometer to take continuous exposures. Ideally, you need two cameras working in tandem, as many (most) cameras need about the same time after an exposure to "develop" the frame.

I end up with about half of the meteors in the field of view.

One idea I have is to use a dashcam but I'm reluctant to fork out for one when I'm not even sure it would work.
