Came across this small butterfly at landsend i think it is called a small Blue not sure though i am sure our flutter by experts will be able to confirm and i was lucky to get it ,so quick,second photo slightly out of focus but may help ID

It's a tough one I can tell you it's definitely not a Ringlet or a Small Blue. Small blues have very different underwing markings and they are really small.

 

It's either a very worn female common blue or a Chalkhill Blue. I'm edging towards Common Blue.

 

Where did you see it David was it near chalk hills?

That one was about 15 mm  quite small ,blue purpley wings , seen the same or similar around stonehenge  ,above the cliffs at lands end  i think the soil is chalk ,

No none of them the wing face ie top of wings purply blue  like lillac

Yes they are common blues.

If you look at the above photo which is yours. Can you see the row of black dots they form an arch. On Common blues the second dot from the left always drops down out of the arch. They are the only blue butterfly that this happens. Look at the chalk hill blue you can see it doesn't occur the arch is continuous.

 

So yours is a Male common Blue but it's pretty old and faded.
