Looks like I too will have to start messing about with this polar alignment malarkey. ?

Will need to get to grips with this Sharpcap as well.

I have found out what the problem has been. I assumed that the altitude scale on the eq5 Pro Mount May well have been roughly accurate. I set it to approx 52.5 degs.

This evening I removed the polar scope and inserted my laser pointer into the aperture expecting the beam to be pretty close to Polaris. It was about 15 degs out!!!

so much for skywatchers scale accuracy.

I adjusted the altitude still with the laser pointer for guidance.

went through the polar alignment procedure in Sharpcap Pro and without any problems I Platé solved and got a good polar alignment.

looking at the altitude dial on the mount and it reads 67 degs.

what a palava.

Anyway it is sorted now.

thanks guys

Graham

15 degrees out!! ?

Might have expected up to 1 degree, in which case everything would probably have worked fine with Sharpcap.

Glad you're sorted now. ?

The mount has been level throughout. According to the bubble level on the tripod top plate.

It would appear that the altitude scale on the mount had been put in the wrong alignment position

glad your sorted, these things are sent to try us, i`ve never trusted the mounts altitude scale, it looks like a bit of plastic just stuck on, there are no marks to align the guide when put on at the factory and i`m sure they don`t really care.
