As graham said you don’t have too but can be beneficial, I have a wired handset from Argos just a cheap one, just remember to plug your usb devices into the same ports every time saves a lot of time , ask me how I know ? Press the expand tab which is a row of arrows >>>>> You will find the game pad tab on the far right at the bottom. The one function I recommend you disable is the emergency stop. If you accidentally press this in the dark you will have to reboot your computer and start all over. The only buttons I have activated on mine are the direction buttons.
