Imaging my first Comet - 46P/Wirtanen

60x 60s Lights

82 Darks

60 Flats

60 Bias

 

E-PL5 ISO 800, 250mm prime lens, unguided SWSA

 

Stacked with DSS in Stars + Comet mode

Processed in Startools & Gimp

 

 

Galactic background is far from perfect, but I guess smoothly stacking and blending a moving comet and the night sky simultaneously is a tall order for DSS and myself.

Better and closer than my effort. I hope to have a go at 300mm.

 

Visually, it seems more diffuse but photographically, it shows a pronounced centre.

What FL did you try out of interest? 

 

Uncharted territory for me, so I guess I just picked the lens gathering the most amount of dust. Looking back, there's a few things I now see I can improve upon for the next one.

I used 70mm. As I could not see it through the viewfinder, I used the widest field possible. I normally use this technique for star clusters and find that close-up and widefield shots are both good in their own way.
