site looks to be doing really well, hopefully at this rate we will have 50 members by the end of Christmas which would be great.

Well we only need another 6 and we are there, I think we will do it.

We have had 3 new members join up in the last 2 days, so if that trend continues were on.

Yeah, that show seems to generate a lot of interest, thats why I have been buying loads of stuff now, because come January when Stargazing live starts, if the last show is anything to go by, astro gear flys off the shelves.

It will be great if we do reach 50 members by xmas. What baffles me still is we had 226 members while on SGL, where are they all.

Mick, I must admit I only "found" this site because Baz (Martyn) invited me. I think people signed up to the East Midlands Group, then never bothered to go back for one reason or another. The site has only been up for 2 weeks, I think nearly 50 members is a good start!!

I think folks will realise that SGL and EMS can complement each other. EMS gives us an avenue or arranging local events and observing sessions, but SGL has so much knowledge. We should definitely encourage the use of both.

As for the member numbers, it's often said that a 7.5% to 10% activity level of any online group is considered to be "good". 44 /226 = 19.4%... I'd say that's excellent!

I couldn't agree more, looking forward to the next dark site meet (if I can make bit), will be good to put names to faces and to thank the people who over the last 12 months have had to put up with my stupid questions.

Mick smith, the guy i sold my old scope and mount to has just sent me a pm from sgl, he`s only just seen the post that we have set up a new local site so he should be joining us soon.

Yup SGL and EMS complement each other very well. There's no harm continuing to invite local SGL'ers to the EMS section on SGL - eventually they find their way here for local stuff which is great - whilst still getting great advice from a wider audience on SGL :)

My experience of running similar groups is that if you get 10% of your membership active on a regular daily basis then that is about average.

Astronomy Shed started from scratch a year ago and now we have over 2000+ members.

Onwards and upwards.
