Quantum Mechanics 8th February

By Dr Pieter Kok

The wave nature of light means that in order to resolve smaller and smaller features in distant objects such as stars and galaxies, we need larger and larger telescopes. There are, however, other ways to construct astronomical images that may circumvent the construction of huge telescopes. In this talk I will explore what some of these other methods are, and how we can ultimately reach the limits of imaging set by quantum mechanics. In the process, I will sketch a brief history of the development of quantum optics.
