Popular Post Doc Posted May 26, 2019 Popular Post Share Posted May 26, 2019 What can I say about Whixall Moss in Shropshire, it's huge about the size of 100 football pitches. It's all pretty much bog, so you must keep to the paths or you will sink. There are lots of pools and quite a few dragonflies. The main purpose of the visit was to see the White Darters as they only live in a couple of places in Britain, this being one of them. Seeing the White faced Darters was a new tick for me so I was well chuffed. Another new tick would have been seeing a Raft Spider, apparently as big as your outstretched hand but try as I could I never saw one. To think that dragonflies have been around since the dinosaurs. I was fortunate and got to see a raft spider when I was at RSPB Minsmere a couple of years ago.
