How Do Planets Form? A talk by By Prof Simon Goodwin

The formation of planets and solar systems seems much more complex than we thought.  Massive planets can move around (inwards and outwards) during the early stages of planet formation, and that seems to set the structure of solar systems.  I’ll talk about how we think our Solar System formed – and why we think Jupiter and Saturn moved in and then out again, and how that might be crucial for why the Earth has life… (also, Neptune and Uranus moved later, and we may have ‘lost’ a planet…).
