Tuesday 16 July Tannenbaum for eclipse.....??

Recommended Posts

Is anyone up to join for a meet a week on Tuesday on July 16 up at Belper, Tannenbaum ??

Shadow chasing is on the menu.....

As the full moon rises at around 21:00hrs BST an eclipse will already be underway...

Its only a partial one, but still, around two thirds of the moon will be 'in shadow' at maximum eclipse around 22:30hrs,

with the eclipse ending before midnight.

With Lunar being fairly low down there should be some good imaging opportunities along the way.

A good east to south horizon is important here, so i think Tannenbaum is the best option we have...?

Any takers ??

(Credit as well to IDAS for notifying me of this event on their Facebook page. I was not aware we were due a Lunar eclipse here)

One of mine from 28.09.15 EMS Belper darksite

It won't be as dark this time of course, but hopefully i can get an image or two, but it will be tricky with the Dob pointing towards the horizon....

Hopefully the weather gods will be kind.....?? Pretty please...?

I'm the same.

Theres nothing happening till 21:00hrs, but then we have a three hour window to HOPEFULLY see something.

Mind you, we said that at Wymeswold last year and saw nothing !!! 😄

I'll be getting there for about 20:00 time.......will the gate be open for me ???

Or......do i need to give Sharon a call ??

My knee injury is playing up and it's looking pretty cloudy down here, so I'm giving this one a miss.  Get some good pics if you can.

10 mins on Jupiter

10mins on Lunar

5mins on Saturn

also Arcturus and Alcor / Mizar.    All after a near 2 hour wait.

Warm evening, good company.

Thanks to Rob’s optimism 👍 and for the views through his Dob I got to see the eclipse, Jupiter and Saturn. I have learnt not to be such a doubting Thomas. I like the shot. That is what we saw.

I'm pretty sure that the last time it was cloudy at full moon was the last lunar eclipse! Certainly feels like it.

Probably..!! That was July last year if i remember correctly ? At Wymeswold.

My best one was the Septrmber 2015 event we saw at 2 in the morning at the cricket club on the other field.

I was with Mick and Darren and it was spectacular.

It went from virtually no stars at the beginning to a really good dark sky during the hour and a bit of totality.

We spent some of that time looking at deep sky objects !!
