Some meteor hits from today

Recommended Posts

Hi Graham,

Have you ever seen any good explainations for the existance of the 'bands' in some of the meteor hits.

I see exactly the same thing and I know many others do also.

The pattern is too regular to be anything like wind shear and the measurement appear very similar over different images.

I saw one explaination once that tried to take the measurements and correlate that to the radars phased array beam pattern.

The beam has 4 sectors, each one covering a different arc.

This sounds plausibe and would explain the regular pattern but I've never seen anything conclusive.

This gives a description of the beam pattern and how each sector is scanned.

The band theory seems to hold water.

Some of the larger hits are broken into 4 definable bands.

Other than that it seems to be pretty vague .
