Meet-up this weekend.

Barry Gowans

Good morning all,

I’ve just been looking at the weather for this weekend and we appear to have the possibility of a freak run of clear skies from Friday to Sunday.

With this in mind, is anyone planning to meet up at one of the dark sites?

Cheers

Barry

I can do Belper.  I've not met anyone before so will be keen for you all to show me how not to use my telescope 🙂

With me Barry, it will be the blind leading the blind ! 🤣

I'm free Sunday evening for Belper meet rather than the Friday. Can't do Friday.

Remember theres a full moon Friday, so a lot of deep sky viewing will be 'difficult'

Don't think I'll make it this weekend, but let us know what you decide and I'll contact Sharon to let her know. Doesn't look like they have anything on this weekend.

I am on call this weekend, but I'll be getting stuff ready for Kelling too. So unfortunately won't be able to make it.

Forecast is good for Friday night, so can a mod liaise with Sharon, please?  Arriving about 7:30 - 8:00, hopefully with a new scope (and sunglasses!).

I can now make Friday night, but not Saturday. Also free Sunday.

Got an early start Saturday, so i won't be out too late.

Can we synchronise watches please.......? Day and time ?

Remember they will be campers about, as well as a full moon......😐

If you’re both still up for it ( I sense some flagging optimism 🙂) I can do tonight which seems the better weather night.

I can be there for 7:30 if that suits.

I’ll try and pop over later. Have to be at Chesterfield Observatory at 8PM, but should be able to get over afterwards.

See you later then.

I'll try and find a quietish part of the field ; we usually head towards the end either on the left or the right hand side.

My car is a white Peugeot estate.

I will take the refractor and have a planetary session as the moon will play havoc on dso's.

Sounds good. I’ve checked the instructions but for info, is there a car park or do we drive directly into site?

You can drive directly on to site. We usually go for the bottom right hand corner of the field as it's the flattest area. Alot depends on any campers. Please watch out for the telegraph pole in the middle of the field!!! I'll let Sharon know you'll be up about 7:30.

Edit. Sharon has confirmed. Your good to go.

To keep Rob company, I'm bringing my new scope.  Anybody want any bubble-wrap?

That looks lovely.

Sorry chaps, can’t make tonight, dropping my son off a cub camp and the missus has booked us a curry.

Hope it stays clear for you.

Sorry we missed you Dave.

We were there from 19:30 - 22:45 and decided we'd seen all we could with the bright moon which pretty much obliterated everything.

I'd forgotten you said you may pop over later.......whoops !

Seeing was a bit wobbly, but always a treat to view Saturn.

Saw the GRS on Jupiter, though its slowly sinking into the west soon to be lost for the remainder of this year.

10 sets of campers and several fires going meant we decided to relocate upwind of them to the left part of the field about a quarter of the way down.

I slowed a couple of 'muggles' the view of Lunar and Saturn, and the oohs and arrghs told me they liked what they saw. The highlight of the evening for me.

Nice to see Bryan and meet Barry for the first time.

I was also feeling the cold later (Bryan reported 8ºC on the thermometer) in just a fleece and cap and i'll certainly be needing warmer clothes in the not too

distant future. Winter is on the horizon......

Till the next session 😀

Yes, the new kit did everything asked of it, in style.

A result!

A nice meet, where nobody had any agendas and we just pottered.
