Hi everyone - had a fantastic tour of Mt Teide Observatory yesterday. I took a few of snaps that might interest you. The first one is inside the Carlos Sanchez Telescope (TCS). The guide was explaining the new toy they now have bolted to it. This camera array covers the infrared and ultra violet part of the spectrum and is revolutionary because it's cooling system is fresh air!. Normally they would expect to be hooking up liquid nitrogen to cool the sensors sufficiently. The scope itself is only marginally bigger than @Graham monster ? It's a Schmitt-Cass with a 1.52m primary (just above the guides head). The scope itself is a bit of a relic from WWII in as much as the primary mirror is mounted to an old piece of battleship and the motor to his right is from an old German tank. There is a lot of affection for this scope as the guide explained " "old is not another word for bad". I've included a picture of the VTT (Vacuum Tube Telescope) for you solar lovers. The are primarily a solar observatory and they're hoping that the funding is approved for their next installation, a 4.5m solar scope. Cheers!
