All sky set up

Graham

Recommended Posts

I got fed up with seeing my all sky kit sitting here so today I set it up in a temporary home.

4 cameras with a 90 degree field of view set up in a square and at 45 degrees to the horizon.

This should mean I have all of the sky covered.

All cameras are set up on motion detect.

Going to have to do some thing with the infrared lights on these cameras.

They seem to be attracting every bug and fly in the neighborhood 😃

Looking good, hope you catch something.

I had my ASI120mm set up a few days ago but the moon, cloud, rain and dew ruined any chance of a capture.

I'm hoping to get a dew heater fitted in a few days and then we'll see if mother nature allows me a view of the stars.

You can tell I have got this up and running all the hits have stopped 😅

Yeah mine have died off quite dramatically.

I did pick up a nice one at around 21:45 but mostly low counts and mostly very small.

Thats put my mind at ease, thought I might have disturbed my ariel when I was messing about in the loft running the cables for the all sky set up

Well this lot is going back.

Bloody hard drive is faulty.

Why cannot you but something these days and it just works as it should.

Sorry to hear that Graham.

Not good.... I was looking forward to seeing how it turned out with 4 cams pointing skyward.

I got an email today saying the anti-dew heater ring and perspex dome I ordered last week should be with me tomorrow - fingers crossed they work.

I'm going to get a quick and dirty enclosure made up and try get it out Thursday night to see how it all works and assuming the heater does it's job I'll build a better enclosure.

So far I'm very happy with AllSkEye software I've been giving a try, I just need a night without dew and a big moon or cloud to actually capture anything, but the timers and image/video

features all seem to work as expected.

Been in touch with the manufacture and they are going to send me some updated software.

I will wait to see if it fixes the problem.

In the meantime I have a back up plan.

I purchased a new lens for the AS! 120.

I also purchased a CCTV housing which has an internal heater.

Quick manufacture of a mounting bracket and it's ready to fit to a wall.

Fits really nicely.

Just need a longer USB lead and connect up the 12 volt power supply .

Unfortunately I will not have a motion detecting facility as the ASI only does video but I can set it up in Fire capture to do short videos.

Further update.

All fitted to the upstairs wall of my house.

Thanks to Al and his find of AllSkEye capture software I can run the ASI 120 at 10 second long individual exposures.

So no need to take short videos.

After only a few images tonight it has become apparent that the car park flood lights of the Con club at the back of my garden are giving the camera some grief.

My solution will be a simple one.

Tomorrow I will turn the whole thing upside down.

This way the weather shield that is on the top of the housing should act as a light shield.

I feel your pain ....... I've got some people to the back of us who have an un-natural fondness for outdoor lighting!

Would it be worth fixing a temporary shield to the bottom of the housing to check it cures the problem.
