Lathkill Dale Flood Conditions

Derbyshire Dave

Recommended Posts

On Sunday visited Lathkill Dale. In summer a lot of the riverbed is dry, the water draining through into old mineworkings such as the Mandale Mine. There is a large cave resurgence called Lathkill Head Cave. In summer , it's completely dry and can be entered by cavers. In autumn/winter a small/medium anount of water resurges there.

Yesterday was different ....

Lower down the dale, the 'Tufa Dam' which always flows, but is low enough in summer for dippers to nest behind, was also in spectacular form..
