M52 and the Bubble Neb

Decided on a change last night and after seeing Paul's pic of this target I decided I would have a crack at it myself.

After slewing the scope I could not find the Bubble to save my life.

Then a brain wave struck me, Got the laptop with Pauls photo on it and used it as a map.

Any one watching would have thought I had completely lost the plot as I sat there slowly rotating my

laptop round and around and around.

I finaly realised my image frame was upside down to Paul's photo.

Once sussed I quickly found the Bubble so centered everything up and began taking subs.

I started off with 3 min subs at ISO 400 but they were over exposed.

Comming down in steps with the length of the subs I settled on just 60 seconds a sub.

After sorting out the bad ones I ended up with 94 subs.

I then set the camera off gathering the darks and went to bed.

Got up this morning to find there had been a problem and BYE had closed down after 30 darks.

Well I have put this lot through DSS today at work and then had a play in Gimp.

The result is rather over done and I will have another go when I get home using PS.

I think what amazed me most about this target is the sheer number of stars.

When I looked at the regeion in the sky last night with the naked eye I could hardly see one.

When I then looked at the sub I was absolutlely astounded by the number.

Anyway hope you like it.

Graham.

Nice Graham.

I hope we can swap notes regularly and bag all the possible planetary nebs.

Regards.

That is really impressive Graham, so much interest there with two DSOs in the same field.

Such a rich field of stars, makes it look like the bubble is embedded in a star cluster.

Sounds like a plan to me Paul.

I have now put this through PS 6.

I don't know what I did wrong but when I saved the finished article in a TIF file it went completely white.

That is a real shame because it was full of colour unlike these JPEG files I saved.

But hey ho such is life.

Good attempt Graham, its a tough target for non modded cameras.

I have had another go at this today.

I downloaded Gradiant exterminator and reprocess the original DSS output file.

It is getting better.

Very slowly.

Hi Dan.

Thanks but I have overcooked it a bit.

Never noticed the blown out stars at the bottom when I did it.

Must remember to move the image up and check the bottom of it next time. :P

Don't wanna wish the summer away (if you can call this years a summer!), but I can't wait for Autumn/winter and a chance to use my newish kit and have a go myself!

You and me both.

Can you just picture it.

Get home from work at 6 ish set the scope up and running leave it gathering data all night.

Get up around 6 30 have a cuppa whilst you examin your subs.

Shut the scope down around 7 ish put the dust cap on and go to work leaving the camera to gather Darks all day.

Heaven.
