Postcard from Lincoln

Inspired by @Derbyshire Dave last week, i thought i'd share a few images i took yesterday in Lincoln City centre, and a few from April 5th as well.

So, what was i doing wandering around Lincoln on a Sunday afternoon yesterday ?

Well, i was working (i'm a key worker) and was in uniform, so as i'd got a couple of free hours to dispose of, i took the almost unique opportunity to

have a wander round an almost deserted city in lockdown and grab a few photos. And the weather was A1 !! Clear, and sunny. What could be better ?

We don't normally have a long turnaround in Lincoln ; its usually 25 mins or so, so when i'm presented with a longer break there, i like to make the most of it.

There's a couple of convenience stores in Lincoln i knew of, so i headed into town to grab a few provisions along the way.

 

All of these pictures were taken with my iPhone (11 Pro Max) and lightly edited in phone using iOS Photos.

Lincoln Central station from High St level crossing. The signal box (High St) is now closed for good.

The train i worked in from Nottingham, is in Platform 3, ready for its next journey.

 

 

St Mary Le Wigford church is located next door to the railway station.

Parts of it date from the 11th Century, and its Lincoln's oldest church.

We are now at the bottom of 'Steep Hill' heading upwards

Steep Hill is getting steeper, and steeper. 

But we are near the top, and Cathedral Quarter is not far away.....

Lincoln Castle entrance (closed) I've been in here before and had a look at the Magna Carta.

Essential maintenance has been going on here for a number of years, but it's almost finished.

I'm always blown away by this view.....in my opinion Lincoln Cathedrals west side is one of the finest examples of

medieval architecture anywhere in the world.

 

 

Its such a big majestic building, that i need to use the iPhones wide angle camera (0.5x) to try and fit it in shot.

Even that is not enough, and it warps the image a bit, but i don't think it's too bad.

 

 

A final look at the Cathedral tower. It's 83 meters tall, rising over 500ft above sea level.

I will hopefully return again soon, in the not too distant future.

Was up there a few years ago now and they were doing them then.

Nice images Rob, it must have been in the 80s when I last visited Lincoln. I particularly like the view from Broadgate, looking north. It really shows what a massive building the cathedral is.
