Well the learning curve continues!

Last night I wanted to see the difference between Binning 1x1 and 2x2 on M51.

There seems more detail and colour in the 1x1 image (reduced to 25%) than on

the 2x2 image (reduces to 50%). There was a slight rise in amp glow on the 1x1

also 2x2 is 25 stacked images and the 1x1 is only 10 stacked images!

May try 120s Binned 1x1 and Gain of 500 as last night for another test.

Comments please?

2x2 image.

1x1 image (less than half the exposures.

Nice images Ron. Would it be worth stacking just 10 of the 2 x 2 to get a like for like comparison?

Maybe Clive, it was a bit of an after thought last night.

I agree a like for like would be a better comparison.

Cheers

Ron

(I suppose I could just stack 10 and see!!)

As suggested by Clive, herewith a stack of 10 x 180s + flats  2x2 at gain 500 and the original

1x1 10 x 180s + Flats

Hi Steve, the unity gain for the camera is 400 I believe.

I used 500 because of it being a dim object, is that not the idea??

I thought it was similar to the ISO settings on DSLR's??

Ron TBH I have no idea I was just asking because my 183 is about 230 ish.

Have you watched this ?

Also just a thought have you tried ROI with the cam @ 1x1 and 2x2

Just throwing out random thoughts and nothing concrete

Yes I've watched it but have not tried the ROI yet, but will do at some point! 👍

Coming along nicely Ron.

One question --- did you take another set of flats for the 2x2 binned ???

It's difficult to tell from the jpegs which is better but I'm curious to know why there is a difference in the colours? (I prefer the 2 x 2 for that)

I took a set of flats the other day both 2x2 and 1x1 and used them accordingly.

Yes the colour difference was the first thing I noticed between the two images!

Cheers

Ron
