hi all.

I stumbled across this website actually by accident, but glad i did; there is some great advice in the forum section and you all seem happy to help each other, which is great.

I live and do my night sky observing in Spondon and own an 8 inch Newtonian telescope on a motorised equatorial mount. I have recently become more interested in DeepSky object photography and am enjoying the steep learning curve; keeping me busy during lock down period!
What great weather in April we have had, my scope stayed out for a full 2 weeks without needing to pack it up! fantasic for 'galaxy season'.  I started posting some of my images on Astrobin and instagram, please take a look and feel free to criticise them, i want to learn from you all. I will of course post here too now.

A warm welcome to the forum Jon.

Pull up a chair and make yourself at home. There's a good few of us within your locale and when the dark times have gone we have two darksites that you would be more than welcome to come along to. Good luck with the imaging marlarkey. ☺️

Welcome , Nice images Jon  are you taking calibration frames ?.

hi, yes i take darks and [sometimes] flat calibrations, i'm not very good at getting that perfect yet so have a lot of gradients in the image, but most of that is light pollution.

Flats seem to be the hardest to get right as I’m finding though more to do with light source even field of  illumination especially with a 8” newt , I’m working on it though .

i used the white tshirt method, pointing at late evening blue sky, but yes hard to get the illumination even, since the sky inevitably has a gradient of its own.
